CALLING ALL MEMBERS TO BECOME ACTIVE IN THE NEXT STEP OF SIBEAL

The 4th Annual Sibeal Conference, Feminism, Activism and Creativity, will take place in Limerick University on the 25th and 26th of November.

The conference proceedings will incorporate our 2nd AGM. We invite all members of Sibeal to participate in this important event.

As outlined in our Constitution, which was adopted at the AGM in NUI Galway last year, every year we elect 4 to 6 Trustees who will lead the ongoing development of the Sibeal network for the coming year.

This year 3 of our current 5 Trustees will be standing down. As they are no longer post-graduate students they are no longer eligible to serve on the committee. We are therefore urgently looking for members willing to play an active part in continuing to develop Sibeal!

Being involved with Sibeal is a great opportunity to network and learn with feminist and gender studies postgraduate scholars from across Ireland. It also provides postgraduate students with valuable experience of conference organisation, developing membership organisations, financial management and publication – all useful skills to put on your CV!

The Trustees meet about 4 times per year. The Trustees are responsible for the ongoing development of Sibeal through:

  • Communication with membership including posting of regular newletters and keeping the website updates.
  • Fundraising and financial management – ongoing communication with our sponsors, mainly feminist and gender studies departments attached to Irish universities
  • Conference organisation – planning and co-ordination of the 5th annual Sibeal conference, 2012
  • We strive to achieve a geographical spread of Trustees, so as to ensure that Sibeal continues to be a national organisation covering all four provinces of Ireland.
  • As far as possible, Sibeal aims to cover expenses of Trustees.
