Note: the conference programme has been updated.
The Sibéal Irish Postgraduate Feminist and Gender Studies Network will hold their annual conference at the University of Limerick on Saturday 26th November 2011. This one-day conference aims to bring together people from Ireland and the UK whose work focuses on aspects of feminist and gender studies.
Sibéal is an organisation run by postgraduate students for postgraduate students. It is the only one of its kind in Ireland that caters for scholars working in feminist and gender studies. Its aims are to maintain and foster a network of scholars working in the areas of feminist and gender studies; to provide a community and a space for scholars wherein research can be shared, debated, exchanged and developed; to engender and facilitate interdisciplinary dialogue around burgeoning issues in feminist and gender studies today; to encourage engagement between scholars themselves but also between scholars’ research and the community.
Postgraduate students are invited to participate by submitting a proposal to present an individual research paper, or organise a panel, an academic or creative workshop, a poster presentation, a performance, or an exhibition (see CFP for further details). Postgraduates who wish to attend but not present are welcome. Members of the community and feminist/gender-focused grassroots associations are also warmly welcome and will be encouraged to engage in all of the conference events. More senior academics (supervisors, mentors, faculty members) are also invited.
Further details on the conference, and on the Sibéal Irish Postgraduate Feminist and Gender Studies Network, are available at www.sibeal.ie. Details on presenting and proposal-submission are outlined on the Call for Participation and CFP Template attached. Deadline for proposal submission is October 7th 2011. Publication Opportunity
On 23rd April 2009 the Department of Sociology, University of Limerick officially launched a new, reviewed journal entitled ‘Socheolas: Limerick Student Journal of Sociology’.
Now in its 4th issue, Socheolas is produced, edited and managed by a small team from within the Department of Sociology at the University of Limerick.
The journal publishes high quality student work in both an online and print format and offers students the opportunity to experience the process of paper submission, review, editing and publication as well as improving their overall writing and sociological skills.
Socheolas is delighted to work with Sibéal to offer 2011 conference delegates the opportunity to see their work published in a special issue that is reflective of the 2011 Conference themes.
The editorial board welcomes submissions from all delegates. In order to be considered for inclusion in the journal delegates must:
- Submit a full paper (3000-4000 words) with full references and bibliography by Monday December 5th 2011
- Where papers include material accessed through fieldwork or interaction with research participants, full details of University Ethics Clearance must be included.
Interested parties are also asked to please note that:
- All deadlines for submission, review and edits are final
- Acceptance of a paper for review does not equal commitment to publish
- By submitting a paper for review students are willing to engage with the review/editing process.
Please contact Dr Cliona Barnes (cliona.barnes@ul.ie) for further information about this special issue and please see www.ul.ie/sociology/ for previous issues.
